Wireman Trade Information
Wireman is an electrical engineering vocational trade. The duration of trade is two years with four semesters of six months each. The syllabus for trade mainly comprises topics like how to repair and replace wiring and electrical systems in houses and factories; prepare the grounding system and connect wiring to the structure; install wiring, security and fire-protection systems; install lighting fixtures and troubleshoot electrical systems; read a variety of meters to check current values and the amount of current being sent or received and the like others. Trade is good from job point of view and self-employment as it opens many opportunities in various fields. There are many ITIs offering this trade in the country.

Wireman Trade Required Skills
- Students should be able to read and understand mechanical, electrical/electronic, pneumatic drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
- They should know how to apply technical skills in an effective manner; and interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- They should possess the knowledge to select and use assembly and wiring tools such as manuals and pneumatic or electric hand tools.
How is Wireman Trade Beneficial?
- After passing trade, students can install different instruments for measurement of Voltage, Current, Power, Power factor, Energy, etc.; can work on private basis in electrical shops.

Regarding the implementation and evaluation of the Revised Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) with 1200 annual learning hours:
This pertains to the execution and evaluation of the revamped and rationalized Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) for both existing and newly enrolled CTS trainees starting from the academic session 2022-23. This is in reference to the letter with the number MSDE(DGT)-19/03(04)/2022-CD, dated September 1, 2022 (a copy of which is attached).
The evaluation of the training will involve two components:
- Formative Assessments: These will be conducted for each Learning Outcome, encompassing both practical and related theory aspects. Instructors responsible for the training will assess the trainees’ knowledge, skills, and behavioral development in relation to each Learning Outcome.
- Summative Assessments: These will be carried out through the All India Trade Test (AITT) and will cover Trade Theory, Employability Skills, and Trade practical. A Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination lasting two hours will be conducted, which will include the following components:
- For Engineering Trades: Trade Theory (including questions on Workshop Calculation & Science and Engineering Drawing) and Employability Skills.
- For Draughtsman Group of Trades: Trade Theory (including questions on Workshop Calculation & Science) and Employability Skills.
- For Non-Engineering Trades: Trade Theory and Employability Skills.
- The marking pattern and distribution of marks for the trades are as follows.
- The minimum pass percentage for Trade Practical and Formative assessment on Learning Outcomes is 60% each. The minimum pass percentage in Trade Theory & Employability Skills is 33% each.
- Directors of States/UTs responsible for ITIs, the Regional Director of RDSDES, and Principals of all ITIs/NSTIs are urged to ensure the smooth implementation and evaluation of the revised CTS trade curriculum in all institutes. They should also ensure that this information is effectively communicated to all trainers and academic staff.
